Autins Technical Centre

Established in 2016, Autins Technical Centre is the core provider of technical knowledge, testing services and product innovation for all Autins Group companies. Headed by Dr Kathy Beresford, who has a PhD in Multichannel Automotive Audio, her team of acousticians hold extensive experience in nonwovens, polymers, material testing, acoustics and automotive NVH (noise, vibration and harshness).

Acoustic material testing capabilities include:

  • Density (kg/m3)
  • Air Flow Resistivity (Ns/m4)
  • Alpha Cabin (small reverberation chamber)
  • Impedance tube testing – acoustic absorption and transmission loss

Biot software characterisation

Inverse and indirect software methods for characterising Biot parameters:

  • Porosity (0-1)
  • Tortuosity (≥1)
  • Viscous characteristic length (m)
  • Thermal characteristic length (m)

These parameters are common for modelling porous materials using statistical energy analysis (SEA) or finite element analysis (FEA) packages

Acoustic Modelling

In addition to acoustic testing services we also offer finite transfer matrix method (FTMM) acoustic modelling. This takes material Biot parameters and uses them to predict acoustic performance. We use acoustic modelling to generate expertise and scientific rigour for customer projects and product developments
